On the evening of 26 October, less than 24 hours after Aleksandar Vučić conceded defeat, a group of protesters entered the Belgrade newsroom of Informer TV, interrupting its live broadcast and confronting owner and editor Dragan J. Vučićević. Staff were evacuated, and police escorted the protesters out after brief scuffles, according to N1 and Vreme. Among those present was the mother of one of the Novi Sad canopy victims, AFP reported.

A long-running grievance

Informer’s television channel and tabloid have for years been among the most aggressive pro-government outlets, repeatedly attacking student protesters and opposition figures. International election observers said this month that broadcasters had mostly portrayed the Student List negatively.

Calls for restraint

Student assemblies held gatherings the same evening in Belgrade, Kragujevac, Niš and Novi Sad and urged supporters to pursue change through institutions, including the new parliament. Media freedom will be an early test for the incoming majority, which has promised independent institutions — including the electronic media regulator, REM.
