Expo 2027 at 200 Days: The 1 December Deadline the New Government Inherits
Work continues across seven exhibition halls in Surčin, and pavilions are due to be handed to participating countries next month. The project — and its bill — passes to a majority that promised audits.

Specialised Expo 2027 Belgrade passed the 200-day mark on 27 October. Organisers say work is progressing across seven exhibition halls at the Surčin site, with pavilion spaces scheduled for handover to participating countries by 1 December. The exhibition, themed “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All”, runs from 15 May to 15 August 2027.
Scale
Organisers expect more than 140 international participants and over four million visits, along with about 50,000 business meetings and more than 175 business events. At a technical preparation meeting on 1–3 October, Dimitri Kerkentzes, secretary general of the Bureau International des Expositions, said construction was on schedule; the first national delegations were due on site in October.
Cost and scrutiny
Official estimates of the bill vary. Danilo Jerinić, director of Expo 2027 d.o.o., has said total investment does not exceed €1.3bn, while the 2026 budget allocated 42.5bn dinars to the exhibition. The Student List’s programme calls for audits of state-funded projects and publication of all contracts.
What changes now
The incoming government has strong reasons to deliver on time: participating states have made commitments, and the after-use plan includes a new Belgrade Fair and transport links. It will also face pressure from its own voters to open the books. How it balances continuity and scrutiny will be watched closely by contractors and investors.
