Belgrade Book Fair Closes Its 69th Edition, With Tunisia as Guest of Honour
Under the slogan “Words Build the World”, the region’s largest literary event ran for nine days at the Belgrade Fair — opening amid a boycott by some publishers.

The 69th International Belgrade Book Fair closes today after nine days at the Belgrade Fairgrounds. Running from 23 to 31 October under the slogan “Words Build the World”, this year’s edition hosted Tunisia as guest of honour, presenting its literature, authors and publishing sector through a dedicated programme. Publishers from 14 countries took part.
A fair with history
Dating back to the 1950s, the fair is the region’s leading meeting point for publishers and readers. The 2024 edition drew 203,350 visitors, a record since attendance began to be measured that way, with more than 500 programmes.
A boycott at the opening
This year’s edition opened with a boycott by some publishers, N1 reported. The fairgrounds will also host GITEX AI Belgrade in May 2027, while a new Belgrade Fair is planned as part of the after-use of the Expo 2027 site in Surčin.
